If you are struggling to understand the current stock market and have a deep worry about your retirement future, then The Plug can help you find the right precious metals company to work with. Diversifying your portfolio to hedge against inflation may be your best option. One of the best methods to hedge inflation is through investment in precious metals like Gold, Silver, Platinum, and Palladium.
The IRS allows investors to buy precious metals through a self-directed IRA. The IRA gives investors the same tax benefits as a Standard IRA or Roth IRA. The benefit to the investor is they have control over their investments. One such control is the ability to buy or sell your precious metals at any time and delay any tax implications till you start your distributions. The IRS has specific guidelines for Gold and Silver to be purchased within your IRA and since we are all not tax advisors and IRS agents, we need to work with the companies providing the most accurate and trustworthy information.
Knowing which companies are the best choice to work with can be difficult. The internet is full of information and can make things more difficult and easier, at the same time. The Plug wants to help you by narrowing down all those options to get you to the best Gold and Silver IRA companies, so you don't need to start from scratch.
Today, we are providing some details regarding Provident Metals an online retailer of precious metals, rare coins, and Numismatics. Provident Metals is set up as an online retailer for those looking to purchase with CASH or equivalent purchasing sources. However, they do offer IRA gold and silver. If you choose to work with Provident Metals for your IRA gold, understand the process as they don't appear to be focused on Gold and Silver IRAs like other businesses we have reviewed.
We hope the information provided helps you decide if they are a viable company for you to work with. Keep reading to get our information about the company, their offerings, and other details about customer satisfaction and support for their customers.

- Step One - Open a Self-Directed IRA - Preferred Trust Company is the recommended company of choice if you do not have a preference.
- Step Two - Fund Your IRA - once you open your new IRA you are able to fund the IRA using several sources. You could A. Self-Fund with Annual Contributions B. Direct Transfer from existing retirement IRA C. Rollover funds from a qualified retirement account or past 401(k)
- Step Three - Purchase Metals - now that the account is funded you are able to purchase Qualified precious metals
Not mentioned in the Provident IRA information is that once the precious metals have been purchased you will need Provident Metals to transfer the items to secured storage or depository. Is Provident Metals a Credible Business?
Based on the information we have accumulated, Provident Metals started offering precious metals in 2019. A relative newcomer to the precious metal industry, the business is viable and performing today.
The Plug researches companies and gathers information from a variety of sources to provide you, the investor, with the most accurate information. Completing this research we will check sites such as the Better Business Bureau, Business Consumer Alliance, Trustpilot, TrustLink, Google Business Profile, Yelp, Facebook, and more.
In our search of the Texas Corporation Commission, we found that Provident Metals Corp is a registered business and "Active" to transact.
Therefore the fact is Provident Metals is a viable business and incorporated. The next step is to determine how the business fairs with online sources which would indicate the customer's experiences through reviews and complaints. Today we will review, and provide some snippets of information from the following sources. The Plug suggests that all investors or buyers of precious metals do their own due diligence before making a purchase.
The BBB recognizes Provident Metals Corp as an Accredited Business with an A+ rating. The business has been accredited since 2019 and has been in business for three years.
There have been 148 customer reviews with a 4.72 out of 5-Star Rating. This would indicate that the majority of the reviewer trust and have had good experiences with the business.
In three years, there have been 22 complaints filed and in the past 12 months, 5 complaints have been closed. This appears to be a high number of complaints based on our research of similar businesses in the precious metals niche.
Several of the most recent claims discuss the product not being shipped or being shipped and never received. The website indicates that orders above $1,000 being home delivered require a signature. Several orders were never received. The company appears to require the customer to file a lost package or stolen package with the police department prior to refund or replacement. Who is responsible for the insurance on the package in transit? We would suggest that you confirm this question and know the process if you are having the package delivered.
There were issues with being charged extra for delivery and there was a complaint that the product was to be purchased by a credit card and the system for Provident Metals online did not allow it to be switched from ACH to CC. While the CC number was on file the program didn't allow for the transaction, then the customer choose to cancel the order and was charged a fee for cancellation on the CC.
Make sure you understand all the details of the transaction before making a purchase. If you understand all the policies then when something goes sideways you know the process.
Yelp reviews are important as there is no paid accreditation. Some believe other sources that have business pay to belong can remove reviews and complaints.
Yelp shows 27 reviews for Provident Metals Corp. Based on those 27 reviews they have a 2.5 out of 5-Star Rating. As you can see in the photo above the majority of the reviews are 1-star.
When you check out the reviews it appears that the majority of the reviews are from 2021 or older.
One review of 2/5 stars mentions that he originally gave a 4-star review, but the review didn't show up in his opinion because it was not 5-star.
A customer purchased under $1000 and the package was lost. Provident Metals filed a claim, but then closed the claim and did not pay the customer. USPS recognized the lost package with a letter and the insurance still did not pay. According to the customer, Provident Metals was not helpful in this matter.
Trustpilot notes 3,677 reviews for Provident Metals.
The reviews rating is 3.0 out of 5.0-Stars
It appears the majority of the reviews note the company received 5/5 Stars with only a few below that number. Without going through all 3,677 reviews and doing my own math, I would question the validity that there are 90% excellent reviews. It is hard to believe that less than 3 percent of the reviews are below average and the company has 3/5 star rating.
There are several recent 2021 and 2022 reviews indicating the customer received the merchandise they purchased and had a good experience.
One recent review indicated 5/5 stars, but the customer indicated that he purchased over $1000 worth of metals and therefore was supposed to sign for the package. The package was sent USPS and delivered to his mailbox. When he questioned this with the company they provided a signature that was not his.
A couple of the reviews indicated the packaging was fair and the coins moved around and received scratches. Since they were scratched they were not in prime condition and lost value.
Pros and Cons of Provident Metals
Final Thoughts
As a bullion dealer, Provident Metals is a viable source for you to purchase from. If you are looking for gold, silver, copper, or other uniquely minted products they have a large assortment to choose from.
As for the quality of customer service or how they handle transactions with issues, it appears they are poor at best. Not all buyers have had issues and therefore not every transaction will have a problem. We hope you have no issues and can provide feedback. But for a new company, they have had either severe growing pains or have not figured out how to provide better customer service.
We would suggest that you tread lightly with any transactions with this company. We are not saying don't purchase from them, we are just saying consider the information before you transact. Understand their policies and procedures and even take the necessary steps to safeguard your purchases. If you would like further information on Provident Metals click here and we'll take you to their website.
The Plug has reviewed several online retail bullion dealers. There are hundreds on the market for those customers looking to buy 1 gold coin, to those looking to divest their 401(k) and buy gold and silver bars and coins. Check out a few other businesses under our sitemap labeled online gold and silver retailers. We believe you will find a company that can offer you both the product and peace of mind in the transaction.
With any company the market for physical precious metals is fluid and no company can guarantee a positive result. Understand the precious metals and rare coin market to make yourself educated on the process and means of pricing gold and silver coins. Make informed decisions, and we wish you the best of luck in your precious metals buying endeavors.
