Lincoln Tigers Win IL Wrestling Championship

Five KCPS high schools participate in Interscholastic League wrestling meet


Five KCPS high schools participated in the annual Interscholastic League (IL) wrestling meet this week at Lincoln College Preparatory Academy. After numerous matches in weight classes from 106 up to 285 lbs., the Lincoln Prep Tigers captured the IL Wrestling Championship. TheĀ East High Bears finished in second place as a team.

Competing in the IL world meant some competitors wrestled each other for the second, third or even sixth time in their wrestling careers. East’s Maickel Mathis went against Central Academy’s Craig Robinson for the sixth time in their high school careers. After three whole periods of wrestling, Robinson won the match 6-3.

The Southeast High Knights and Northeast High Vikings also competed in the tournament. The following is a list of weight class finishes for the tournament:
