Kansas City Public Schools is proud to announce that after winning Gold Keys at the regional Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, two Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts scholars are Silver Medalists in the 2016 national competition:

Keylisha Nelsonfor, who was honored for her Writing Portfolio, a collection of her poetry, short stories and other work

Dakota Niederhauser, who was honored for her Editorial Cartoon titled, “Life Sentence” (pictured)

Being selected as national Silver Medalists is a great accomplishment for these two student-artists. In the fall and winter, students across the country and abroad submitted nearly 320,000 works of art and writing to the 2016 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Less than 18,000 works earned regional Gold Keys and advanced to NYC for national adjudication. Of those Gold Key works, just 2,400 received national medals. Keylisha’s and Dakota’s work are among the top one percent of art and writing submitted to the 2016 Scholastic Awards!
