IL Teams of the Week (Week of March 2, 2020)


Central Blue Eagles Boys Basketball


Congratulations to the Central Blue Eagles for their Class 3, District 16 Championship win over Maryville on Saturday, February 29. The Blue Eagles defeated the Spoofhounds 55 – 44, led by senior Claivon Duncan and junior Diante Morton, who each scored 12 points. Seniors Noa Jones and Jordan Fortune added 9 points apiece, as did junior D’Marcus Hawkins. Led by first-year head coach Robin Lucas, Jr., this year marks the first time Central has reached 20 wins since the 2009-10 season.

The Blue Eagles (22-6) continue their playoff run Wednesday, March 4 at 7:45 p.m. as they take on the University Academy Gryphons (24-1) at Lee’s Summit North High School. During their current 11-game winning streak, Central High School is averaging 64.6 points per game, while allowing only 44.7 points per game.

Melcher Elementary Basketball

Melcher Elementary basketball is the IL Co-Team of the Week for their performance in the elementary basketball league this season. Melcher finished the regular season with a perfect 8-0 record, and enter the champion­ship tournament as the #1 seed. Banneker Elementary finished the regular season in 3rd place with a record of 5-3.

The 5th/6th Grade Championships are this Saturday at the IL Field House. The first-round game is at 10:00 a.m., and the Championship game is at 2:30 p.m. (Photos by Renee Smith)
