Trailwoods Elementary School Celebrates National Honor

After a rigorous review process and years of hard work, Trailwoods Elementary School became one of only about 300 schools in the world that have earned the coveted Leader in Me Lighthouse School status from the Franklin Covey Co.

Principal Leah Starr unveiled the good news to a packed gymnasium of students, teachers and faculty on Thursday, Sept. 7. The school celebrated with a vocal performance from a fifth grade student, music from the Lincoln Academy string quartet and an array of guest speakers.

Superintendent Mark Bedell praised students and staff during the celebration.

“We are only as good as the people responsible for ensuring this is completed. I want to commend every single one of you.” Bedell said.

The Lighthouse recognition comes because the school has achieved outstanding results in school and student outcomes by implementing “The Leader in Me” process with fidelity over the last three years, according to the company. It is also because of the extraordinary impact the school is having on staff, students, parents, and the greater community.
