Late July and early August is a very auspicious time for Kansas City Public Schools. With everyone getting ready for the upcoming school year, KCPS took it to another level this year.
Starting with the second annual Summer Professional Development Institute at Southeast High School. Over 800 teachers and administrators attended the institute, and the it was focused on equipping teachers so that they can provide the individualized, equitable and top-flight lessons to students.
The fourth annual Summerfest was an incredible success this year. In total, more than 7,200 people that attended were provided 7,000 backpacks, 5,000 sets of school supplies, uniforms for 5,000, 3500 pounds of food, sports physicals, lunch and transportation. It was the LARGEST Summerfest to date!
The fun didn’t stop there, as more than 2,000 members of Team KCPS got fired up for the start of school during Convocation 2019! Convocation is an opportunity for employees to unite at an inspirational, pep rally-type event leading into the first day of classes. The event was presented as a kind of Homecoming for students, parents, staff, alumni and community members.
We are so excited for what the school year holds for our staff, students and families. This year’s start-of-school demonstrated that KCPS has made huge strides towards becoming the kind of high-quality public education system our community needs and deserves. This is our time!
