Kathryn Zubia’s sixth grade class at J.A. Rogers Elementary School was all smiles on Wednesday, Oct. 25 when local business owner Ryan Richard surprised them with a $500 check. Richard, owner of The Foot Spot, selected Zubia from over 100 other grant entries across the metro.
Zubia will use the money to create a calming corner inside her classroom where students can relax when they are frustrated or experiencing trauma outside of the classroom. The calming corner will allow students to decompress so they can return to learning.
Every year, The Foot Spot awards three teachers in Kansas City with a $500 grant. Richard believes it is important to support Kansas City teachers who already spend so much money out of their own pocket.
