Paseo Academy Hosts Veterans Day Celebration

Students and staff honor the sacrifice of American veterans

Kansas City, Nov. 10, 2017:  Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts hosted a Veterans Day celebration from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 10 at the school, which is located at 4747 Flora Ave. in Kansas City, Mo.

Local veterans joined Paseo student ambassadors and staff starting at 9:00 a.m. for donuts and coffee. The program started at 10:00 a.m. with remarks by Principal Debra Powell and a presentation of the colors by the Whiteman Air Force Base Color Guard.

“As we enjoy today’s program, let us remember that the freedom and opportunities we have did not come free,” Dr. Powell said.

The program included choir and dance performances by Paseo students and special interview with veteran Gregory Gereer about his experiences in the Vietnam War. The celebration also included special guest speaker Carl R. Boyd, a Mid-American Hall of Fame educator with over 50 years of experience who has spearheaded the movement Stoots for Boots, a program to encourage community involvement for school improvement in honor of our troops.

The Veterans Day Celebration is organized by orchestra teacher Sheree Yoder and hosted each year by Paseo students to honor those who work to defend and preserve the American dream. Learn more about the school by visiting
