Kansas City, Aug. 29, 2017: The Kansas City Public Schools Office of Early Learning recently shared some important information about the expectations for parents picking their pre-k children up from school.
Effective Friday, Sept. 1, the fee for late pick-up of pre-k students is $1 per minute until the child is picked up. This step is being taken in order to ensure the safety and well-being of all students and staff.
Head Start classrooms dismiss at 2:30 p.m., which includes Richardson and Woodland early learning community schools. The regular school day ends at 3:30 p.m. for all other pre-k sites. Extended Day hours end at 5:30 p.m.
Fees can be paid online via your MyPaymentsPlus account (www.mypaymentsplus.com) or at the KCPS central office, which is located at 2901 Troost Ave. Parents will need to provide a written receipt indicating fees have been paid.
Head Start families may return to the Extended Day program after fees have been paid. All other pre-k families may return to the classroom (for regular and extended hours) after fees have been paid. Children will only be released to adults designated by each family.
Extended Day hours are offered at limited sites. Parents who are interested in extended hours should submit an application. To ensure that these programs are adequately prepared and staffed, approval and payment is required before a child can attend extended hours.
The monthly fees for these extended hours are based on the federal free and reduced-priced lunch program income guidelines:
- $92 per month for families qualifying for the free lunch program
- $138 per month for families qualifying for the reduced-price lunch program
- $184 per month for families with income above the free and reduced-price lunch guidelines
Questions regarding late fees or the Extended Day program should be directed to Keyanna Dawson at (816) 418-5213, (816) 922-0970 or email@example.com. For more information about the KCPS Office of Early Learning, visit www.kcpublicschools.org/EarlyLearning.
