The Lincoln College Preparatory Academy girls basketball team has lived up to the pre-season hype and expectations. At the half point in the season, the Tigers are 13-2 and ranked number three in the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA) poll.
Head coach Jeff Atkins has seen his team grow tremendously over the past three years and is proud of this year’s success.
“This team is very mature and is always ready for the next challenge. I think this year’s expectations have motivated us,” Atkins said.
The Tiger’s only two losses of the year came in an early game against Barstow and a one-point loss to Parkhill South in the recent Oak Park Tournament. However, the squad showed their full potential and impressive skills with a first place finish in the Liberty North Tournament.
Coach Atkins believes his team’s most impressive strengths come on the offensive end.
“Our greatest strengths are our overall quickness and ability to score,” Atkins said.
The Tiger’s skills will be put to the test next Monday, Jan. 29 at the North Kansas City Tournament. The tournament will host several teams with only one loss on their record.
