KCPS Scholars Headed to County Spelling Bee Championship

Students from Border Star Montessori and Longfellow Elementary will be at Feb. 25 competition


Border Star Montessori School third grader Daniel Warren and Longfellow Elementary School fourth grader Sophia Bond demonstrated their mastery of English and made it to the finals of the Jackson County Spelling Bee during the first round of competition on Saturday, Feb. 4.

Mr. Warren and Ms. Bond competed against students from across the county. They were among 14 scholars who will now advance to the Jackson-Clay County Championship Spelling Bee on Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Kansas City Public Library-Plaza Branch.

The championship is scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m. Learn more by visiting the library’s website.

The competition is part of the Scripps National Spelling Bee program. It is sponsored by the Jackson County Mid-Continent Public Library, Local Investment Commission, Kansas City Chapter of the American Federation of Teachers and the Kansas City Public Library.
