KCPS Goes “All In!” for Kids at 2018 Convocation

Back-to-School event raises spirits for school staff going into the new academic year

Kansas City, August 10, 2018:  Kansas City Public Schools staff members are ready to come together in a show of solidarity on behalf of students going into the new academic year.

The 2018 KCPS Convocation began at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9 at Music Hall in downtown Kansas City, Mo. Convocation was a chance for all KCPS staff to get fired-up for the start of classes and for leadership to share their vision for the 2018-2019 academic year.

KCPS officially unveiled its theme for the school year at Convocation: “All In!” This reflects the commitment of school system staff, partners, parents and community members to do everything necessary to help students achieve their highest potential.

“We have to do things we haven’t done before if we want to get different results,” Superintendent Mark Bedell said. “The ‘All In!’ moment happens when you put everything on the line for the big victory. ‘All In!’ means community, urgency, excitement, risk-taking and inclusiveness.”

Convocation featured a parade of school staff with custom displays that demonstrate how each building is going “All In!” for KCPS students. There were also inspirational videos, plus remarks by Dr. Bedell, School Board Chair Melissa Robinson, Congressman Emanuel Cleaver II, Deputy Superintendent Marla Sheppard, KCPS and Regional Teacher of the Year Arjun Ravindran and others.

Classes for the new school year start on Monday, Aug. 13.
