Kansas City, Sept. 19, 2017: Kansas City Public Schools celebrated the power of strong communities during its 2017 Partnership Breakfast and Forum on Monday, Sept. 18 at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.

This year’s breakfast and forum included more than 100 attendees and featured¬†a keynote address by Superintendent Mark Bedell, who talked about the roll that partners play in the new KCPS Strategic Plan. It was also the first major event of its type for new KCPS Manager of Community Partnerships and Engagement Samara Crawford-Herrera.

In his remarks, Dr. Bedell pointed out that many of the challenges faced by students include the entire community, and partnerships play a key roll in the success of KCPS schools.

“Schools can’t do it alone,” Dr. Bedell said.

Following Dr. Bedell’s address, the event transitioned to four breakout sessions. The topics included:

  • Providing resources for individual student growth and school improvement
  • Engaging, embracing and empowering diverse families
  • Creating a community-wide network of support
  • Formalizing partnerships for community change

The event also included information about the new Money Smart Kansas City website and the Kansas City Public Schools Education Foundation.
