KC Chiefs and Dentist Bring Big Smile for KCPS Student

Surprise trip to Super Bowl given through TeamSmile organization

Kansas City, December 19, 2018: Kansas City Chiefs punter Dustin Colquitt scored a touchdown in a dentist’s office.

Colquitt joined Dr. Bill Busch and Kansas City Public Schools Superintendent Mark Bedell at North Kansas City Dental on Tuesday, Dec. 18 to surprise Southeast High School freshman José Parra Recarte with an all-expense paid trip to Super Bowl LIII. The trip was given by the TeamSmile organization, which is in-part sponsored by NKC Dental and the Kansas City Chiefs.

TeamSmile was founded by a group that included Dr. Busch at NKC Dental and is the nation’s premier advocacy group that partners oral health professionals with professional athletic organizations to provide life-changing dental care to underserved children in our communities. By partnering with professional sports organizations, they create an experience that develops bonds between children’s organizations, oral health professionals, surrounding communities, and the athletes that solidify the message that oral health care is vitally important to long-term health. Through this experience, children receive free oral health education, screening, treatment, and are taught that the mouth and body are linked for overall health.

Recarte has been receiving dental care and surgery from Dr. Busch through TeamSmile. When the dentist learned that he had the opportunity to take a student to the Super Bowl as part of the program, he selected Recarte.
