The Foreign Language Academy Middle School Debate Team completed its season on Feb. 25 by winning the Debate Kansas City Team Sweepstakes Championship!
Over the course of the season, the team won several individual and team awards with multiple FLA students finishing in the top power rankings.
At the City Championships, students competed in Student Congress and Policy Debate. In Student Congress, four students made it to the semi-final round: eighth-grader Daunte Washington, seventh-grader Yoselin Rodriguez, sixth-grader Nadia Richard and sixth-grader Christina Osorio.
In Policy Debate, sixth-grader Gabriel Bates finished in the top-10 best speakers of the tournament. Two teams went 3-1 against other schools and finished in the quarter-final round: seventh-graders Keion Gines and Alejandro Guerrero in the novice category and Connor Stanley and Ramon Ortiz in the junior varsity category.
