Despite frigid temperatures, a group of KC residents was seen holding a rally in front of city hall where they are advocating for tenants’ rights. They go by name of KC Tenants and they intend to make housing a central issue in the upcoming mayoral election. The group had a long list of objectives and specific recommendations aimed at making housing cheaper, safer and more available. They also demanded a response from all 11 mayoral candidates.
Dr. Bedell spoke at this rally, and highlighted the Justice in the Schools (JTS) is a joint project between Legal Aid of Western Missouri, the Kansas City Health Department, and the Kansas City Public Schools. As a result of this project, there will be school-based legal clinics staffed by Legal Aid and volunteer attorneys to help with a variety of issues that are negatively impacting students and their families.
