Kansas City, June 27, 2017: A cast of talented young people are ready to show how much progress they’ve made while learning how to move forward together during the Kansas City Public Schools Summer Acceleration program.
Students in the 2017 Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey Summer Dance Camp will take center stage during a special performance starting at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 29 at Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts, which is located at 4747 Flora Ave. in Kansas City, Mo. Members of the public and the news media are invited and encouraged to attend this free performance.
The KCPS camp is a partnership with the Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey organization. Tyrone Aiken is the camp director, and Elaina Levingston and Latra Wilson serve as choreographers.
Over the last four weeks, camp instructors have used ballet, modern dance, jazz, and hip-hop dance techniques, plus music, art and poetry to teach students in grades 9-12 how to be more disciplined, confident and healthier, to build self-esteem, and to improve academically. The June 29 performance is an opportunity for students to demonstrate what they’ve learned.
