The Carver Mercado – or Spanish market – is an event the students at George Washington Carver Dual Language School look forward each year. This year’s Mercado was hosted on Oct. 27 at the school in the school’s gymnasium.
Students in each class create a variety of items to sell to Carver students, parents, community volunteers and staff members. Classes are set up around the gym, creating a Mexican market feel.
“While the school does raise a little bit of money selling tickets for these items, the purpose of the Mercado is for students experience the feel of a Mexican market,” Carver Dual Language School Principal Michael Coulter said. “They also get to experience a small taste of economics by creating and selling a craft.”
