Kansas City, Sept. 21, 2017: Scholars and educators at Harold Holliday and Border Star Montessori schools held celebrations today to mark the 2017 International Day of Peace.

At Holliday, students and staff formed a giant peace symbol in the school’s playground; that was followed by student- and staff-led performances of songs and poetry. Border Star students made “Pinwheels for Peace” and sang the song, “Light A Candle for Peace.”
The International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) is observed around the world each year on Sept. 21. Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to peace above all differences and to contribute to building a culture of peace. This was also one of the goals of Dr. Maria Montessori when she established the Montessori system of education.
