Fourth – Sixth Grade Elementary Exceptional Education
How are you working to increase equity in education and opportunity for students in your school?
I am involved in PBIS. The initiative is to bring positive into the school. I am the co-chair and I bring love, joy, stern, firm and fun to the initiative.
What message about public education do you want to share?
I believe that unity is a major issue in education today. In the early years of education, schools, parents, churches and communities joined together for the common goal of the child’s future. Everyone was teaching the child how to be a respect citizen. Everyone was feeding into the child’s life with helping hands. I believe it takes a village to raise a child. As I look back, so many people had a hand in raising me, from my grandparents, parents, the lady across the street and coaches. My classroom door is always open to students and staff. I keep in touch with students that have left our school. I have taken students to college and helped them apply for scholarships. My community has taught me to always look out for one another.
