How are you working to increase equity in education and opportunity for students in your school?
Last year I was in charge of Thursday assemblies for the “Leader in Me”. I helped organize the students to work together to weekly present a Morning assembly, made sure teachers were presenting each of the lessons thru these assemblies, and worked with my grade to help integrate these lessons into everyday use with students. I feel the impact of the “Leader in Me” project helped some students understand their feelings
What message about public education do you want to share?
I feel that a large portion of our students are dual language learners. We as teachers need to understand that intellectually these students are not behind but need resources and our help to assimilate. The families need to be celebrated and help network these families in order to help their children I use a variety of resources and have many things in my room that are in dual languages in order to help these children succeed and tutor after school on my own time for any student that takes initiative to understand that they need help. They make the choice independently to come and learn- when you give the children the power to educate and learn they will astonish and excel.
