How are you working to increase equity in education and opportunity for students in your school?
After visiting Winnetonka High School, I initiated the Senior Ceiling Tile project. Our seniors will design a ceiling tile that will be placed in the classrooms to encourage a college-going environment. The ceiling tile will display the students’ initials and graduation year plus the mascot of the college they’re attending.
What message about public education do you want to share?
A major public education issue today in my opinion is the lack of parent engagement mixed with the decreasing value of a high school education in the minds of students and families. This is important to me because I came from a family that valued education and despite economic struggles, I was still able to create a successful life for myself. I can tell that a lot of my students don’t have the outside motivation and support to bridge the gap in public education.
