Kansas City Public Schools and the Kansas City Art Institute collaborated to install a series of custom painted murals along the outside of Whittier Elementary School. The colorful murals depict representations from various nations and cultural backgrounds.
The project began several months ago when KCAI students began to volunteer their time and talents to paint different sections of the mural. KCPS staff installed the first section of the mural in early October and finished the majority of the project on Thursday, Nov. 30.
The mural is rooted in Whittier’s surrounding neighborhood—spanning Bales Ave. from 10th to 11th street.
