Paseo Performers Celebrate KCMO Fountain Day

Students get exclusive invite to participate in annual event


Kansas City, April 19, 2018: True to their water-loving Pirate mascot, student-performers from Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts helped reopen the famous Kansas City, Mo. fountains during an annual event on Tuesday, April 17.

The midday celebration was held at the Spirit of Freedom Fountain, 3708 Emanuel Cleaver II Blvd. Paseo Academy’s Chamber Choir and Band/Orchestra Combo were given an exclusive invitation to provide entertainment during the Fountain Day event for a crowd that included city and state officials and dignitaries. That was followed by a reception at the nearby Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Center.

The choir is was led by Gina Mercer, chair of Paseo Academy’s vocal music department, with accompaniment by pianist Tony Fishback. The combo was led by orchestra director Sheree Yoder and band director Mark Fangmann.
