Kansas City, March 23, 2017: Lincoln College Preparatory Academy students were honored recently as among the best high school performing artists in Missouri.
Lincoln Prep’s Wind Ensemble and Chamber Orchestra both received 1 ratings and the Symphonic Band got a 2 rating during the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) state large group music festival on March 21.
This festival brings in judges from across the state to judge local school ensembles in MSHSAA’s District 15. The students prepared two to three pieces of music to perform for three judges, then had six minutes to learn a new piece of music and play it for another judge.
Medals are awarded to groups that earn 1 (“Exemplary”) and 2 (“Outstanding”) ratings. This is the 21st year in a row that the Lincoln Prep Wind Ensemble has received a 1 rating and the second year in a row (third overall) that the Chamber Orchestra has received a 1 rating.
The Lincoln Prep band, orchestra, jazz and International Baccalaureate music programs are all directed by Jason Bata.
