Team KCPS went all in for its hometown Major League Baseball team as they cheered the Kansas City Royals on to victory over the Detroit Tigers during the school system’s Day at the K event on Tuesday, Aug. 28 at Kauffman Stadium.
Despite a late-afternoon severe storm that swept through the region and prompted a planned tailgate to be canceled, the weather cleared and many KCPS staff and family members showed up at “The K” to build camaraderie and enjoy a night of baseball together.
Day at the K was highlighted by KCPS 2018 Teacher of the Year Arjun Ravindran, who threw out the ceremonial first pitch, and Human Resources Department staff member Lindsey Riley, who sang the National Anthem. Students from Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts sang “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh-inning stretch.
The evening was capped by the fact that the Royals bats came alive as they defeated the Tigers 6-2.
