Central Academy of Excellence had a great football season in 2017. Not only did the Screaming Eagles open their new football field and win the conference title, but two of the team’s top players received district and metro recognitions.
Central senior Javion Shelby was named the Interscholastic League Offensive Player of the Year. In addition, Shelby was nominated as a finalist for the Frank Fontana Award for the Most Outstanding Small Class Football Player in the Greater KC Area; read more here.
Senior defensive back DréShaun Sanders was named the Interscholastic League Defensive Player of the year.
During a reception at Arrowhead Stadium, both Shelby and Sanders were named to the 8th Annual All-Simone Team, which recognizes the best players in the Kansas City metro area at every position. Shelby and Sanders were recognized during the Simone Awards ceremony and received a patch for their letterman jacket.
